Hotel Report: Holiday Inn Select, Strongsville, OH

We used a night’s worth of frequent stay points to stay at the Holiday Inn Select in Strongsville, OH. The Holiday Inn Select brand historically had been a consistent indicator of high quality; this hotel didn’t meet the higher expectations.

We got a room with two full-size beds. Even with the assurance that our room had been upgraded due to my Platinum membership, we still didn’t get a refrigerator or a microwave. The television had 15-20 channels, missing even the Disney Channel. Air conditioning was handled with a room thermostat, which worked fine.

The free wireless internet connectivity functioned without a hitch, whether in the room or in the lobby.

The bed and pillows were quite comfortable, firm yet almost a pillow-top. The full-size bed is not good on 6-footers. :)

The bathroom was larger than normal, with room for two people to walk around a little bit. The bathtub itself was small. The shower had an adjustable spray which worked nicely. The hair dryer did not work.

The hotel had a full restaurant with no buffet. Service was very slow. I did get a free breakfast from my Priority Club membership. The food was decent once it got to us.

I didn’t get to evaluate laundry service or the fitness center.

The hotel has plenty of parking, but the entrance from the street is partially hidden by bushes. One has to look high for the sign and then find the inlet.

The staff was friendly but took a while to replace the hair dryer. We didn’t anticipate that we needed to test such things the night before.

The normal room rate was $85, which seems high to me for what we got. We were near the Cleveland Airport, so that was probably a factor. When we go up again in November, we will likely try a different hotel.
