Synod Pres. Says He Won’t Sue

Interesting comments coming from the convention of the Southern Illinois district of the LCMS.

On Pr. Weedon’s blog, the following comment was made:

I just came home for lunch between sessions. Herb Mueller was re-elected Pres. A resolution to support Fan Into Flames was replaced with a resolution to support a district mission plan. Kieschnick stated he is not nor will he sue about the Issues Etc trademark.

“Kieschnick” for the record is the President of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the Rev. Dr. Gerald Kieschnick.

This is good news for Pr. Wilken, Jeff Schwarz, and all the listeners. I hope this also means the LCMS will withdraw their opposition to Harry Madsen’s application for the Issues, Etc. trademark. As of this writing, the new petition has already gathered 1486 signatures.

Thank you, President Kieschnick.

Er… Kieschnick won’t… or LC-MS won’t? I’d like to hear that neither person/entity will do so… and that LC-MS will drop it’s opposition to Mr. Madsen’s claim on a trademark that they didn’t want and won’t use.

Heidi expressed my thought. Is this more Kieschnick double-speak? He was never going to be a named party to any legal action initiated against Todd and Jeff.

  3. Dan says:

The only upside I would see to double-speaking that issue would be to avoid hearing the displeasure of those members at the meeting. Double-speaking on such an easily verifiable issue would be a very short-sighted action that would hurt him politically.

Maybe some of the other comments/press releases Dr. Kieschnick wrote that were proven false weren’t easily verifiable, but they sure seemed so. So imo, it wouldn’t be the first time.

From what I’ve heard, Kieschnick has already blamed this action via doublespeak on the Board of Directors. He claimed not to be involved with the Board’s action, though a key member of said board. I hate to say it, but I am not quite confident in this either.
