Fernando and I have been in Calgary for two weeks, and we will be home soon. During the day we do what we need to do and get the job done, but in the evenings the company lets us go to some fine restaurants. Here is a wrap-up of the best things we have eaten and the best places to go.

| Appetizer | Winner: The octopus in marinara sauce from Char-cut. Perfectly cooked, al dente without any sliminess, and the sauce was terrific.
Honorable mention: The duck dumplings from Wurst. |
Winner: I agree on the octopus.
Honorable mention: Perhaps the Sky 360 Duck entree. |
| Main | Winner: The “chef’s concoction” halibut with asparagus and pea sauce from Sky 360. It will make your kids eat vegetables. Terrific.
Honorable mention: The lamb curry from The King and I. Prefect blend of coconut and red curry, and the lamb melted in the mouth. |
Winner: The Sky 360 Pickerel was very tasty and had very well toasted skin.
Honorable mention: The Hallibut at Wurst. |
| Side | Winner: The ham and spinach spaetzle from Wurst, hands down. The ham flavor was cooked into the spaetzle, and it was wonderful.
No honorable mention here as the spaetzle was out of this world and compared to nothing else. |
Winner: I agree completely. |
| Dessert | Winner: the Black Forest cake from Wurst. Layers of chocolate cake and cream, with wine-soaked cherries. Wunderbar.
Honorable mention: Dark chocolate souffle with vanilla ice cream and raspberry-caramel glaze from Escoba a close second. |
Winner: The Sky 360 Creme brule |
| Atmosphere | Winner: Char-cut. Sitting back by the kitchen watching everything being made totally took our time, and we were never bored.
Honorable mention: Mango Shiva for its Indian decor and Bonterra for its Italian decor. Wine bottles everywhere at Bonterra. |
Winner: Agree 100% on Char-cut. |
| Service | Winner: Char-cut. Our waiter was awesome. Chatted it up yet got the job done. Acted like he loved his job and was proud of the food. The second time we were there, the chef herself served our food. When we ordered one type of sausage, she brought out a second as well.
Honorable mention: Wurst. The bartender kept our drinks going, took us through her recommendations, and treated us very well. |
Winner: I agree, but I have to mention that besides the excellent service at Wurst, the Lady was very beautiful. |
We both agree: Wurst was very good, but Char-cut was the best.
